Future Commissions

Piano Concerto (Commissioned by Wicklow County Council's Per Cent for Art Scheme). To be premiered by Bobby Chen (piano) and the Greystones Orchestra on the 9th and 10th May 2009 at the Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray, and at the Wicklow Arts Festival.

 

Psalm Setting (Commissioned by Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge). To be performed as part of the University's 800th Anniversary celebrations in 2009.

 

Song for soprano and ensemble (Commissioned by Jane Manning) To be performed by Jane Manning as part of her birthday celebrations.

 

Jazz piano work (Commissioned by Bobby Chen) To be premiered by Bobby Chen in 2009/10

 

Past Commissions and Performances

2007

My day in Hell (for string quartet). Commissioned by the Dante Quartet and the Royal Philharmonic Society and premiered at the Cheltenham Festival on the 16th July 2009.

 

Bouleumata (for solo clarinet). Commissioned by the Presteigne Festival and premiered by Catriona Scott at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, Bleddfa on Saturday 23rd August 2008.

2007

The Ogre Lover (for string trio). Premiered at the Purcell Rdoom on the South Bank, January 11th 2007 by the Lendvai String Trio as part of the Park Lane Concert Series. Also performed elsewhere in the UK and in Latvia, Sweden, Holland and China.

 

The Snowwoman (for solo violin). Commissioned by Natalia Lomeiko and performed as an encore in the UK, Canada and New Zealand.

2006

My Fleeting Angel (piano trio). To be premiered by the USF Piano Trio at the University of Southern Florida, Tampa, February 14th, followed by a New York premiere on the 18th February.

2005

The Glory Tree (Sop., fl., (picc.), cl., (bass), Vln, Vc, Pno) Commissioned by the Kreisler Ensemble, premiered in the Purcell Room, 9th June. (15 mins.)

2004

Family Matters (three scenes from). (Sop., tenor, bar., bass, cl. (bass), perc.,pno., vc.) Commissioned by Tête à Tête, performed at the Bridewell Theatre 6-22 Feb, then toured in twelve venues around England.(c. 25 minutes)

2003  

The dreams that fly from me (String Orchestra with Solo Quartet Commissioned by the Hans Sheueble Foundation and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra. (As yet unperformed.)

Excelsus(solo ‘cello) Commissioned by Y.C.A.T. and premiered at the Wigmore Hall by Thomas Carroll, October (16 mins.)

Invocation (Double Bass and Piano). Commissioned by Double Bass 2000, premiered at Wells Cathedral School by David Heyes and Mark Cracknell, October.

Memoria (ob./Cor., vln., vc., pno.) Commissioned by the Spitalfields Festival with funds from the Foyle Foundation. Premiered in Christchurch, Spitalfields, by Nicholas Daniel and the Schubert Ensemble, June.

Melancholia (piano trio) Commissioned by the London Mozart Trio,Premiered at the Wigmore Hall, 26th June.(12 mins)

Broken lines: sonata for opera (sop., tenor, Bass-Bar., chamber orch.) Commissioned by the Cambridge Music Festival with funds from the R.V.W. Foundation, performed by the New Cambridge Opera Group, November. Based on three revue sketches by Harold Pinter (c.25 mins.)

Kontakion and Three Fragments (Double Bass Qtet) Commissioned by the Bass Club premiered at Winchester College, August.

2000

Refusal to Mourn (Oboe and String orchestra) Commissioned by the Cambridge Music Festival and the Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra with funds from the RVW Foundation.Conducted by Nicholas Daniel and CUCO in the West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge, November.(c.15 mins.)

Nunc Dimittis (for 21-voice choir) Commissioned by the Choir of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. Performed at Fotheringay Church on 6th September 2000, and broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. Later performed in St. John’s College Chapel, Cambridge. (2 mins.)

Tread Softly (fl (picc., alto), clar (bass), vln, vla, vc, pno and perc.) Commissioned by the Composers’ Ensemble and the Almeida Festival, premiered at Hoxton Hall, June. (6 mins.)

Stone Angel (Double Bass and Piano) Commissioned by the Chard Festival of  Women in Music. Premiered at the Chard Guildhall, by Elena Hull (Bass) and Cheryl Frances-Hoad (piano), May. (6 mins.)

The Prophecy (‘cello and piano) Commissioned by the Manchester International ‘Cello Festival. Performed by Rebecca Gilliver and Simon Parkin at the RNCM Concert Hall, April. (15 mins.)

Rhapsody on a Theme by Ralph Vaughan Williams (Symphony Orchestra). Commissioned by the Surrey Philharmonic for the re-opening of Dorking Halls, premiered in Dorking Halls, May (c.10 mins.)

String Quartet No. 2 Choreographed by G. Cauley. Danced by Scottish Ballet at the Britten Theatre, London, November.

Fantasia (for nonet) Commissioned for Lord Yehudi Menuhin’s 80th Birthday celebrations at the Yehudi Menuhin School, premiered in the school concert hall, May.
